Pound for pound - the best grappler in the world

The news out of Brazil is that Marcelo Garcia won both his weight class and the absolute division in the Brazilian National Championships of Brazlian jiu jitsu. Garcia is an unbelievable grappler. To give you an idea how far ahead Garcia is compared to other world-class grapplers, in winning these two gold medals he beat Andre Galvão twice (once by submission). Galvão was dominant in winning a gold medal at the BJJ Pan Ams this year.

For Marcelo fans, we already have video of his first match in the absolute division at the Brazilian National Championsips:

Now, you can legitimately argue that Roger Gracie is the best grappler in the world, or that Jacare and Xande Rebeiro come close. But in my book, pound-for-pound, nobody can touch Marcelo Garcia.

p.s. BrazlianBlackBelt.com has posted a few other matches from the absolute division, too:
* Andre Galvão's first match
* Demian Maia's first match
* Demian Maia's semi-final match

Update: Marcelo is going to be competing in Santa Monica, California on May 26 in the LA Sub X Professional Submission League show against Cameron Earl (who beat Garcia the last time they met).
