Pride in flames while the MMA media fiddles
Zach Arnold, who is the top source for English language news on the Pride/Fuji TV story, has the latest:
Meanwhile, still no news of Fuji TV's dumping pride on Sherdog or Full Contact Fighter, although MMA Weekly finally wrote an article today.
What could be a more important story to an MMA news site than the possible destruction of the world's top promotion and allegations that the promotion is controlled by orgaized crime? Well if you read Sherdog right now, this week's belated "Beat Down Radio" show (which will discuss the last Pride-Bushido event (but apparently not Pride's losing its TV deal and a bunch of fighter video interviews from the last Pride-Bushido event are the top news.
I have been a big supporter of the MMA media. But, if sites like Sherdog and Full Contact Fighter cannot find the time to write anything about the year's most important story in MMA, then they deserve the criticsm they get.

In addition to Fuji TV canceling their contract with PRIDE, Yomiuri Hochi (via Yahoo Japan) reports that the network has also issued an order stating that any PRIDE fighters or people associated with PRIDE cannot appear on any Fuji TV shows. This includes variety shows, sports shows, and other programming. This is a big development because Hidehiko Yoshida is a commentator for judo programming on the network.DSE is trying to turn the tide of public perception by scheduling a press conference that will supposedly feature 50 fighters and 200 fans. But I cannot imagine that a press conference can do much to repair the damage done.

The MMA Media does not really have an in depth beat on what goes on in Japan. Zach Arnold pretty much cut and pastes stuff from Japanese papers, websites etc. The problem with Arnold is that he has cried "the sky is falling" a bit too much and it seems a lot of people have tuned him out as a result.
