Good question Zach
Zach Arnold took a look at the post below about Eddie Goldman's reaction to another mainsteam MMA article repeating the Zuffa myth and asked a very good quesiton:
Combine that with a main event that fails to excite hardcore fans even after a full season of reality TV fueled feuding (complete with the requisite pro wrestling style near fist fight in the final epsiode) and the MMA media ban, and you end up with a show that does not have a lot of interest media interest.
Of course, media interest and PPV buys are two different things. It will be interesting to see how the PPV numbers compare to the UFC's recent shows.

It’s Wednesday, and we’re only a few days away from the UFC 61 event in Las Vegas with Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock as the headliner. MMA HQ has predictions, but the bigger question on my mind is whether or not there is serious mainstream buzz for this upcoming show? There seems to be more interest in Dana White in the mainstream media these days than there is for this specific show.I don't see much of a buzz for the upcoming UFC show in the mainstream or MMA media. That may be because the UFC has commited itslef to a pro-wrestling business model of promoting its brand first and fighters second. It seems that the UFC has decided that its must solidify its position as the top MMA promotion so that it can cast a shadow that makes its up-and-coming competitors look like the minor leagues. Getting fighters covered in the mainstream media has taken a back seat.

My recommendations for pay-per-views for the month, if you can afford them, are WFA on July 22 and Mosley-Vargas 2 on July 15. Is anything else going on?
