DOG BROTHER GATHERING: I saw this and couldn’t resist posting it before I leave:

On behalf of Dog Brothers Inc. Martial Arts (DBIMA) all persons with a friendly attitude are invited to attend our “Summer 2002 Dog Brothers Gathering of the Pack” on Sunday July 28th at 11:00AM in El Segundo at “The RAW Gym”. 310-322-5552

Many of you remember our Gatherings in the park in Hermosa Beach. The years were spent there were very special, and that we could do what we do in a public park I believe is a powerful testimonial to what we (and that includes you) are about. Still, it was inevitable that sooner or later that problems would show up that we could not handle in the context of a public place. And so the Gatherings in the park in went on hold until we could find a suitable private property location. With the RAW Gym we have done so. RAW, headed up by Rico Chiapparelli, is a 8000 sq. ft. world class NHB facility with strong fighting spirit. Not many private property locations large enough and bold enough to be the site of a “Dog Brothers Gathering”! We tested out RAW at our first Training Camp last year, and then held our first Gathering since leaving the park last December with minimal spreading of the word. I am pleased with the results.

From the beginning our Gathering have been about experimentation and growth. In the beginning, almost all fights were single stick (26-30 inches) against single stick. Then the sticks started getting bigger and heavier, double stick became part of the mix, grappling made its appearance (years before the UFC) staff fights are now regularly seen, the knife fights have gone from rattan dowels to plastic and aluminum blades. Now there are many fights of unmatched weapons. All of these steps have been about growth. And now from the open spaces of the park we go indoors.

The Gatherings at the Park in Hermosa Beach were the first Saturday of May and the Saturday of September that fell closest to the autumnal equinox (9/21). Now that we hold them at the RAW Gym, they will be on Sundays so as to facilitate parking issues. There will be one in the summer. (This year the date chosen was atypical for a variety of reasons) and one the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We choose this new custom so that those who come to our annual Training Camp from far away (we have people who come from Europe, Canada, and throughout the US) can save on travel expenses by combining the Camp with attending or fighting at a “Dog Brothers Gathering”.

The Magic Words:

“No judges, no referees, no trophies. One rule only: Be Friends at the end of the day. This means our goal is that no one spends the night in the hospital and that everyone leaves with the IQ with which they came. However, only you are responsible for you. Stickfighting is dangerous and injuries will happen so protect yourself at all times. No suing no one for no reason for nothing no how no way. This includes members of the audience as well. Please note we (DBIMA) are a corporation. All copyright etc to the event belongs to DBIMA. Higher Consciousness through Harder Contact!” (c)
