Anyone excited about the Pride GP this weekend?

The finals of the Pride Open-Weight Grand Prix are this weekend, but I do not see a lot of buzz for the show. Could it be that, as Luke Nicholson from fightopinion.com says, fans are burned out on watching the same roster of fighters recyled as they keep fighting each other?

You thoughts are welcome in the comments.

  1. I agree to some extent, but at the same time, Nogueira vs. Barnett is a fresh match-up, and Wanderlei Silva has never fought Cro Cop under MMA rules.

I don’t think it is a question of being burned out, especially with this card. The two GP fights are absolutely phenomonal: with one, you have a fight between two amazing heavyweights that should have happened years ago after Nogueira beat Sapp; with the second, you have a very long-awaited rematch that as garnered discussion ever since their first bout took place. Not to mention the fight between Kharitonov and Aleksander, a guaranteed exciting fight as they used to be training partners and teammates and now neither guy really cares for the other. I’m excited and I can’t wait for this card.

  3. GP fights have me pretty excited, the others…not so much.

It is similar to the last couple of UFCs in that it feels like a two fight show. Alex E/Sergei might be good, but I am not as impressed with Alex as others are.

Arona/Overeem feels like two underachievers going at it.

I am looking forward more to UFC 63 than anything in the last couple of months.

  4. It’s been awahile since I;ve been this excited about a card. It will be great. Every match is pretty compelling.
